As a Missing Children's Specialist, your role will involve identifying and evaluating cases of missing children under the agency's care. You will initiate efforts to locate these children and ensure proper reporting to relevant authorities. This position also entails conducting thorough assessments upon receiving Foster Care Referrals and providing assistance to the Independent Living Program as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing whether a child is missing from agency care.
  • Taking initial actions to locate the child.
  • Assisting Family Case Managers in completing necessary documentation within specified timeframes.
  • Reporting missing children to local law enforcement, the judicial system, and other relevant parties promptly.
  • Completing a Missing Child Report (MCR) in the designated system within 24 hours of the report.
  • Conducting search efforts in accordance with CFCE, the Lead Agency, and DCF policies.
  • Managing Foster Care Referrals, including:
    • Reviewing historical abuse, neglect, or abandonment reports and relevant records to assess the child's and foster parent's history.
    • Responding to referrals within 72 hours to evaluate concerns and interview involved parties.
    • Documenting assessment findings and actions taken in the appropriate system.
  • Supporting Independent Living Services by:
    • Facilitating annual staffing for children aged 13 and older, ensuring progress evaluations are conducted.
    • Assisting in the completion and review of Life Skills Assessments and related documentation.
    • Monitoring life skills services provided by licensed caregivers.
    • Preparing written reports for judicial reviews and permanency hearings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services-related field with 2 years of relevant experience in child welfare.
  • OR a Bachelor's Degree in a non-human services field with 4 years of relevant experience.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make independent decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer usage.
  • Strong assessment and intervention capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously or with minimal supervision.
  • Competence in observing and accurately reporting on family dynamics.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Understanding of environmental stressors affecting families.
  • Capacity to establish appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
