As a Child Safety Coordinator, your primary responsibility will be to determine if a child is unaccounted for within the agency's care, initiate efforts to locate the child, and notify the appropriate authorities regarding the missing child. This role also entails ensuring that a comprehensive and prompt evaluation is conducted upon receiving Foster Care Referrals. Additionally, you will provide assistance to the Independent Living Program as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess whether a child is missing from the agency's care.
  • Initiate actions to locate the child.
  • Assist Family Case Managers in completing necessary documentation within set timeframes.
  • Report the missing child to local law enforcement, the courts, and other relevant parties promptly.
  • Complete a Missing Child Report (MCR) in the designated system within 24 hours of the report.
  • Conduct location efforts as mandated by CFCE, the Lead Agency, and DCF policies.
  • Manage Foster Care Referrals, including:
    • Reviewing all previous abuse, neglect, or abandonment reports and all relevant records to assess the child's and foster parent's history.
    • Responding to the home within 72 hours of receiving a Foster Care Referral to evaluate the concerns and interview all involved parties.
    • Documenting findings and assessments in the appropriate system.
  • Support Independent Living Services by:
    • Facilitating annual Independent Living meetings for children aged 13 and older.
    • Assisting with the completion and review of Life Skills Assessments and related documentation.
    • Monitoring life skills services provided by licensed caregivers.
    • Preparing written reports for judicial reviews and permanency hearings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services-related field with 2 years of relevant experience in child welfare.
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in a non-human services field with 4 years of relevant experience in child welfare.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer usage.
  • Strong assessment and intervention capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously or with minimal supervision.
  • Accurate observation and reporting skills regarding individual and family functioning.
  • Confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Understanding of environmental stressors affecting clients.
  • Ability to establish appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
