As a Child Welfare Investigator, your primary responsibility will be to determine if a child is unaccounted for within the agency's care. You will initiate the necessary steps to locate the child and ensure that the appropriate authorities are informed. This role also entails conducting thorough assessments for Foster Care Referrals in a timely manner and providing support to the Independent Living Program as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess whether a child is missing from agency care.
  • Take immediate action to locate the child.
  • Assist Family Case Managers in completing necessary documentation within specified timelines.
  • Report missing children to local law enforcement, the courts, and relevant stakeholders promptly.
  • Complete a Missing Child Report (MCR) in the designated system within 24 hours of the report.
  • Conduct efforts to locate the child as mandated by CFCE and relevant policies.
  • Manage Foster Care Referrals, including:
    • Reviewing all historical reports of abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
    • Responding to referrals within 72 hours to assess concerns and interview involved parties.
    • Documenting all findings and actions taken in the appropriate system.
  • Support Independent Living Services by:
    • Facilitating annual staffing for children transitioning to independence.
    • Assisting with life skills assessments and documentation.
    • Monitoring life skills services provided by licensed caregivers.
    • Preparing reports for judicial reviews and permanency hearings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services-related field with 2 years of relevant experience in child welfare.
  • OR a Bachelor's Degree in a non-human services field with 4 years of relevant experience.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make independent decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer usage.
  • Strong assessment and intervention capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Competence in observing and accurately reporting on family dynamics.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Understanding of environmental stressors affecting families.
  • Capacity to establish appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
