Role Summary

This position is responsible for managing accounting controls for departmental budgets and providing support to faculty and staff regarding financial matters.

As a key member of the MSU Extension Director's Office, the Accountant I will assist in the financial and operational functions of the office, including approving purchasing card transactions, processing travel reimbursements, and contributing to the annual budgeting process. This role is crucial for the effective operation of our complex organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and manage KFS e-documents for disbursement vouchers, internal billings, income and expense distributions, requisitions, and travel expense reports.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret financial data to support various business office processes.
  • Monitor departmental activities and assist with apparel tax tracking, mobile communication reimbursements, and financial statement updates.
  • Engage in capital asset management, including the annual inventory process and equipment status verification.
  • Support the fiscal officer in annual budget preparation and related documentation.
Characteristic Duties
  • Audit financial documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare and submit invoices to maintain account oversight.
  • Provide guidance on personnel forms, salary inquiries, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain budget systems and status reports through accurate data entry.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and budgeting.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and software applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
