Key Responsibilities:

  • The Lead Surgical Technologist exhibits exceptional expertise in aseptic and surgical practices, serving as the primary scrub.
  • Proactively anticipates the need for unplanned procedures or unexpected developments during surgical operations.
  • Provides support to the leadership team and showcases strong leadership capabilities.
  • Identifies safety risks and initiates necessary preventative and corrective measures.
  • Demonstrates superior knowledge in high-pressure and emergency scenarios.
  • Facilitates the daily operating room schedule by readily accepting and adapting to assignments.
  • Exhibits a commitment to professional responsibilities and leadership roles.
  • Takes accountability for decisions and actions.
  • Engages in departmental objectives, educational initiatives, and quality improvement processes.
  • Conducts both formal and informal educational sessions within the Perioperative and Anesthesia departments.
  • Serves as a knowledgeable resource in multiple specialty areas and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for managing specialty equipment and instrumentation.

Position Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program is preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) via NCCT
  • BLS certification from AHA is required
  • Surgical Technologist registration is mandatory
  • Eligibility for Surgical Technologist registration in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of hire; registration must be completed within six months of employment.
