Position Overview: The Police Department is seeking applications for the role of full-time Licensed Law Enforcement Officer. Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, the officer will be responsible for enforcing state laws and municipal regulations while ensuring the safety and security of residents and visitors.

Key Responsibilities: Duties include but are not limited to: enforcing state laws and local regulations, responding to service calls, and providing first aid and assistance as necessary.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Applicants should be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen, and free from felony, A or B misdemeanor, or domestic violence convictions. A clean work history without disciplinary issues is required.

Candidates must have a valid Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) Certification (must be beyond 2 years of certification date at time of hiring) or the ability to obtain a POST Comparative Certification. Non-Connecticut certified candidates will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Selection Process: The selection process includes a written examination assessing police job knowledge, with a minimum passing score of 70%. Candidates who meet this score may be invited for an oral board interview.

Physical Agility: Connecticut certified officers are not required to complete a CHIP test. Non-Connecticut certified officers may need to pass a physical agility test in accordance with POST comparative certification guidelines.

Background Investigation: A thorough background check is a critical part of the selection process, utilizing current and former law enforcement employers to assess the applicant's performance and character. Access to employment records is necessary for the hiring process.

Additional Assessments: Candidates may be required to undergo a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, pre-employment physical, and drug testing.

Final Interview: Selected candidates will have an interview with the Chief of Police.
