Key Position Details

  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday.
  • Full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.
  • Location: Wethersfield, with travel across the state required.
  • Shifts: First Shift begins between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM; Second Shift starts at 2:00 PM, with potential weekend and evening hours.

Role Responsibilities

As a Motor Vehicle Inspector, you will be tasked with enforcing laws related to motor vehicles, focusing on areas such as commercial vehicle inspections, auto theft investigations, dealer compliance, school bus safety, and other criminal inquiries. Your duties will include:

  • Conducting thorough inspections and investigations concerning motor vehicles, dealer and repair facilities, and licensing.
  • Addressing consumer complaints and verifying relevant documentation.
  • Utilizing state-wide arrest authority for motor vehicle-related offenses.

Requirements for Applicants

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license during employment.
  • Must establish residency in Connecticut prior to appointment.
  • Submission of a valid law enforcement certification is mandatory.

Selection Process

The hiring process consists of several stages, including:

  • Application submission and certification verification.
  • Medical evaluations, including physical examinations and drug screenings.
  • Interviews conducted by experienced members of the division.
  • Background checks covering employment, education, and criminal history.
  • Psychological assessments to determine suitability for law enforcement roles.
