Substance Abuse Counselor

The Behavioral Health Therapist will deliver counseling services focused on substance use disorders, therapy, and educational initiatives aimed at harm reduction for individuals seeking support. Utilizing evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, the therapist will engage in a structured clinical process that encompasses assessment, treatment planning, referral services, and discharge strategies. In addition to therapeutic interventions, the therapist will also provide case management to assist clients in meeting their essential needs and facilitate connections to more intensive care when necessary.
The therapist is responsible for maintaining accurate progress notes within the electronic health records system, ensuring compliance with billing procedures for services rendered to underserved populations. This role operates under the supervision of a Clinical Supervisor and may involve additional oversight for advanced credentialing from a licensed professional in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one counseling focused on substance use and prevention of relapse, ensuring documentation in the Electronic Health Records.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and educational workshops for clinic participants, employing techniques such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
- Foster a collaborative service delivery model by integrating activities across various programs and initiatives.
- Provide comprehensive case management services and assist clients in connecting with external service providers as necessary.
- Document patient information and service details in the designated tracking system.
- Establish new partnerships and resources with external service providers.
- Adhere to all reporting and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement quality assurance measures for client records.
- Engage in team meetings, training sessions, and supervisory activities.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
- Experience working with marginalized populations within a culturally competent framework.
- Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices.
- Strong understanding of the core competencies required for substance abuse treatment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and communication skills.
- A Master's degree in social work or a related field, or equivalent experience as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor II (LADAC) is required.
- A minimum of three years of clinical experience is preferred and may be considered in lieu of formal education.
