Position Overview:

The Ohio Department of Commerce is seeking a dedicated professional to oversee and manage human services programs aimed at supporting the offender population. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of unit management and relevant federal and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate under administrative guidance while demonstrating extensive knowledge of unit management.
  • Administer and evaluate institution-wide programming for offenders, focusing on meaningful and evidence-based activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the delivery of unit management and offender services.
  • Collaborate with both internal departments and external community resources to enhance service delivery.
  • Review, develop, and implement policies related to unit management, reentry planning, and offender classification.
  • Lead and monitor offender groups, including civic and community organizations.
  • Oversee the offender disciplinary process, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
  • Participate as a member or chairperson of designated committees.
  • Act as Deputy Warden of Operations when assigned, fulfilling responsibilities as directed.
  • Manage classification and job assignment processes for offenders.
  • Supervise unit management personnel, providing training and performance evaluations.
  • Assign tasks to staff and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Plan and oversee various activities within the unit.
  • Recruit and select unit management staff in collaboration with the Warden and personnel, adhering to applicable codes and contracts.
  • Regularly disseminate information to staff to maintain transparency and communication.
  • Conduct rounds as mandated by policy to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and monitor the security and sanitation standards of the units.
  • Ensure all relevant staff are trained in the Ohio Risk Assessment System.
  • Supervise the institution's comprehensive reentry plan and related processes.
  • Oversee the application of offender assessment tools and case plans.
  • Prepare and maintain correspondence, records, and files related to offenders.
  • Ensure proper management of files, including visiting, parole, and unit records.
  • Compile reports detailing departmental activities as required.
  • Generate periodic reports on offender programs and group activities.
  • Pursue grant opportunities related to offender programming and services.
  • Provide counseling and casework services to offenders in unique situations.
  • Engage with community organizations to coordinate joint service projects.
  • Deliver community presentations at conferences and advisory committees.
  • Guide unit staff in organizing volunteer community services and programming.
  • Manage the offender release process and parole planning.
  • Engage with community groups to discuss volunteering and unit management philosophy.
  • Serve as Administrative Duty Officer as required.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a completion of an undergraduate core program in social or behavioral science, pre-medicine, public or business administration, or accounting, along with 18 months of experience in delivering human services or medical assistance. Alternatively, a graduate core program completion with 12 months of relevant experience is acceptable. Supervisory experience is also required.
