Key Responsibilities:
  • Operates under administrative guidance, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of unit management and relevant federal/state program regulations.
  • Oversees and evaluates institution-wide unit management initiatives aimed at the offender population, including meaningful activities and evidence-based programming.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and assesses the provision of unit management and offender services.
  • Collaborates with internal and external departments as well as community resources to formulate and implement policies regarding unit management, reentry/release planning, and offender classification.
  • Supervises and evaluates offender groups, such as Civic/Community Organizations.
  • Provides oversight and monitoring of the offender disciplinary process.
  • Participates as chairperson or member in assigned committees.
  • Acts as Deputy Warden of Operations when assigned, fulfilling responsibilities as directed.
  • Manages classification and job assignment processes for offenders.
  • Oversees unit management staff, ensuring effective supervision and training.
  • Evaluates staff performance and assigns tasks in alignment with policy.
  • Plans and monitors activities to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Engages in the selection and hiring of unit management staff in collaboration with the Warden and personnel, adhering to applicable regulations and contracts.
  • Regularly disseminates information to staff members.
  • Conducts rounds as mandated by policy.
  • Monitors and assesses the security and sanitation of the units.
  • Ensures all designated staff receive training in the Ohio Risk Assessment System.
  • Oversees the institution's comprehensive reentry plan and processes.
  • Provides oversight and evaluates offender assessment tools and case plans.
  • Prepares and maintains correspondences, records, and files related to offenders.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of files, including significant data pertaining to offenders.
  • Compiles reports on departmental activities as required.
  • Generates periodic reports on offender programs and group activities.
  • Pursues grants related to offender programming and services.
  • Offers counseling to offenders and provides casework services in unique situations.
  • Coordinates with community organizations and associates to facilitate community service projects.
  • Conducts community presentations at conferences and advisory committees.
  • Supervises unit staff in organizing volunteer community services and programming.
  • Manages the offender release process and parole planning.
  • Engages with community groups on topics such as volunteering, unit management philosophy, and reentry.
  • Serves as Administrative Duty Officer as assigned.

Qualifications:
Completion of an undergraduate core program in social or behavioral science, pre-medicine, public or business administration, or accounting; 18 months of experience in delivering human services or medical assistance in governmental, community, or private human support services agencies or medical providers; 6 months of experience in supervisory principles/techniques.
Alternatively, completion of a graduate core program in social or behavioral science, a medicine-related field, public or business administration, or accounting; 12 months of experience in delivering human services or medical assistance in governmental, community, or private human support services agencies or medical providers; 6 months of experience in supervisory principles/techniques.
Note: Training in business or public administration or accounting and experience in reviewing services for cost containment/budgeting apply only to medical cost containment program administrator positions.
