The Director of Major Gifts will oversee a portfolio of high-net-worth contributors and strategically engage new prospects. This role is essential in guiding individuals from initial interest to deep engagement, fostering contributions through annual, campaign, endowment, and legacy giving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage an established portfolio of high-net-worth contributors.
  • Secure leadership and major gifts through written proposals and face-to-face solicitations, collaborating with Board members, volunteers, and Plan program staff.
  • Maintain a diverse portfolio of donors at various stages of engagement, identifying a top 25 and a bench of 50 prospective donors for personalized attention.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all donors in the portfolio, ensuring timely communication and appropriate follow-ups.
  • Utilize Salesforce for donor tracking, maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Collaborate with the Prospect Research Team to identify potential leadership and major gift prospects.
  • Supervise mid-level giving officers.
  • Develop individual donor cultivation plans and implement long-term strategies for engagement and solicitation.
  • Work with the Prospect Research Team to tailor asks based on prospects' interests and philanthropic goals.
  • Prepare proposals for campaigns, major gifts, and regular updates for donors.
  • Draft briefing memos for executives and Board members involved in donor interactions.
  • Enhance volunteer leadership capacity to elevate Plan's profile and expand our supporter base.
  • Engage in professional associations and events to raise awareness of Plan within the private donor community.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven success in developing and executing diverse donor cultivation activities.
  • Experience in leading and motivating volunteer committees to identify and engage high-value prospects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Confident, outgoing, and persistently gracious demeanor.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently in a remote setting.
  • Commitment to confidentiality.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • In-depth understanding of current philanthropic trends.
  • Familiarity with various planned giving vehicles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Salesforce.
  • Ability to build personal relationships across diverse contexts.
  • Comfortable engaging with influential and affluent individuals.
  • Proven ability to secure and increase contributions from existing and prospective donors.
  • Capacity to represent Plan's mission and values to external audiences.
  • Outstanding organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for fundraising and a genuine interest in promoting girls' rights and international development.
  • Experience in making initial contact with prospects and maintaining regular follow-ups.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years in major gifts fundraising.
  • Experience in leading volunteer committees for identifying and cultivating high-value prospects.
  • Proven track record of securing significant financial contributions.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed revenue targets.

Plan International USA offers a comprehensive compensation package, including health benefits, paid time off, sick leave, and retirement contributions. Salary offers are determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity, with a target range of $80,000 - $120,000 annually.
