The Senior Director of Philanthropic Engagement will oversee a portfolio of affluent donors and strategically cultivate new prospects. This role is pivotal in transitioning individuals from interest to active investment in annual, campaign, endowment, and legacy contributions.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Principal Gifts, the Senior Director of Philanthropic Engagement will collaborate closely with the major gifts team to enhance revenue for Plan International USA by identifying, soliciting, and nurturing leadership ($100,000+) and major gift ($10,000-$99,000) donors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a well-established portfolio of high-net-worth donors.
  • Secure leadership and major gifts through written proposals and face-to-face solicitations, collaborating with Board members, volunteers, and Plan program staff.
  • Maintain a diverse portfolio of donors at various stages of the cultivation and stewardship cycle; identify a top 25 and a bench of 50 potential donors for personalized engagement.
  • Act as the primary communication liaison for all donors in the portfolio, ensuring timely interactions, appropriate requests, and consistent follow-ups.
  • Utilize Salesforce for donor management, maintaining accurate and detailed records of donor interactions.
  • Work alongside the Prospect Research Team to identify potential leadership and major gift prospects.
  • Supervise mid-level giving officers.
  • Develop individualized donor engagement plans, implementing long-term cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Prospect Research Team to tailor asks based on donor interests and giving capacity.
  • Prepare proposals for campaigns, major gifts, and regular updates for donors.
  • Draft briefing materials for the CEO, Board, or other stakeholders involved in donor meetings.
  • Enhance volunteer leadership capacity to elevate Plan's visibility and broaden the supporter base.
  • Engage in professional networks and events to raise awareness of Plan within the philanthropic community.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven success in organizing and executing diverse donor cultivation activities.
  • Experience in leading and motivating volunteer committees to identify and engage major gift prospects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Confident, personable, and persistently engaging demeanor.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational abilities.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively and independently in a remote setting.
  • Commitment to confidentiality.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as necessary.
  • In-depth understanding of current philanthropic trends.
  • Familiarity with various planned giving instruments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Salesforce.
  • Adept at building personal relationships across diverse contexts.
  • Ability to engage effectively with influential and affluent individuals.
  • Proven ability to increase contributions from existing and prospective donors.
  • Capability to represent the mission and values of Plan to external audiences.
  • Outstanding organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for fundraising and a genuine commitment to girls' rights and international development.
  • Comfortable initiating contact with prospects and maintaining follow-up communications.

Educational Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience in major gifts fundraising.
  • Experience in leading volunteer committees focused on major gift cultivation.
  • Documented success in securing significant gifts.
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed revenue goals.

Plan International USA offers a comprehensive compensation package, including health benefits, paid time off, sick leave, and retirement contributions. Salary offers are determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity, with a target range of $80,000 - $120,000 annually.
