Job Title: Developmental Care Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Developmental Care Specialist to join our team at Respite Care of San Antonio Inc. As a Developmental Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the daily care and well-being of children with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement plans designed by the lead teacher to ensure a fun and interactive learning environment.
  • Assist with lesson planning and facilitating daily schedules to promote child development.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and child-centered environment, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Assume responsibility of the teacher in their absence, ensuring continuity of care and education.
  • Report all incidents and emergencies to the lead teacher or director.
  • Administer general care, including toileting, feeding, and changing diapers, as needed.
  • Actively engage with children, encouraging their participation in all domains of development.
  • Work on developmentally appropriate skills, such as alphabet, numbers, colors, and sounds, to promote child growth.
  • Facilitate modifications of activities for children with disabilities to ensure full participation.
  • Formally observe children's activities and progress, documenting and sharing information with the lead teacher.
  • Utilize positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors in children.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with diverse cultures and communities, including children, parents, and staff members.
  • Supervise children at all times, ensuring their health and safety.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with staff, families, and coworkers.

Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older and have favorable findings on background checks.
  • High School Diploma or GED required, college courses preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with developmental disabilities and direct care experience preferred.
