This position advocates for Child Life services through effective collaboration with other healthcare professionals. As a key leader within the department, the hospital, and the broader community, the specialist takes on responsibilities for departmental operations in the absence of the Director, as delegated.
About CHRISTUS Children's Hospital:
Founded in 1959, CHRISTUS Children's Hospital is recognized as the first children's hospital in South-Central Texas. This facility, with over 190 beds, caters to more than 70,000 children each year from various regions. In partnership with a prominent medical college, it stands as the only academic children's hospital in the area, offering specialized services that address the unique medical needs of children, including advanced pediatric and neonatal care, emergency services, and innovative treatments for various conditions.
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Completion of a Child Life internship from an accredited Child Life Teaching Program is required.
- In-depth knowledge of child development and family responses to hospitalization, along with effective coping strategies, is essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
- A solid understanding of educational development is required.
- Familiarity with hospital policies and a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology and procedures is important.
- The ability to problem-solve, demonstrate creativity, take initiative, and work independently is crucial.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
- A minimum of four (4) years of paid experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) is required.
- At least eighteen (18) months of experience in the specialty area is mandatory.
- Maintaining Child Life Certification is required.
- CPR certification is also necessary.
