Executive Director of Member Engagement

Greater Somerset County YMCA, Inc. is seeking an experienced Executive Director of Member Engagement to lead our team in promoting and developing activities associated with various program areas, including Membership, Aquatics, Wellness, and Youth Development. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and managing direct reports and the operations team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support youth development programming in partnership with the District VP of Operations.
  • Ensure high-quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations, and ongoing training of staff.
  • Develop and direct high-quality member-focused strategies using innovative program development, evaluations, and ongoing training of staff that support Branch and Association goals and strategies.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and direct employees and volunteers. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor assigned operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Recommend adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submit reports on current operations.
  • Support onsite social responsibility initiatives based on community needs.
  • Develop, implement, and manage operating plans to promote membership and program growth in harmony with overall YMCA objectives.
  • Develop strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Create a member-focused culture and model relationship-building skills in all interactions. Foster a climate of innovation and resolve problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Promote program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members.
  • Support program registration, including logistics to facilitate phone, walk-in, and online registration in conjunction with Senior Director of Membership.
  • Coordinate efforts with Marketing to maximize enrollments and provide ongoing support to Branch Program Directors and lead staff on related issues.
  • Support Senior Director of Membership with daily deposits, review daily cash reconciliation, follow-up on collections of returned drafts/returned checks, and audit petty cash.
  • Ensure proper implementation of welcome desk procedures in conjunction with Senior Director of Membership. Review and update desk procedures and communicate changes to staff.
  • Coordinate with the finance office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Organize membership events at the YMCA and represent the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Provide oversight for Financial Assistance, including intake of applications, committee meetings, and administrative tracking of application approval and denials.
  • Develop, plan, and implement new procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business, or a related field, or equivalent, preferred.
  • Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations, including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing, and public relations, and program development.
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in a member/customer service-related role required.
  • Experience directing youth programming.
  • Superior leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with staff and interact with membership.
  • Must have flexibility in work schedule and expectations to work evenings and some weekends.
  • Excellent organizational, member engagement, staff development, administrative, and communication skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
  • Has solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel as well as good administrative skills.
