Job Overview

A hospital Pharmacy Technician III plays a vital role in the pharmacy operations, working under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. The primary responsibility is to assist the pharmacist in the distribution of medications to patients in the hospital, including inpatient and outpatient units, emergency room, and operating room.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of compounded sterile products, including chemotherapy and hazardous medications, while following current guidelines and policy.
  • Perform hand hygiene and garbing, and clean and disinfect the hoods and room according to policy, maintaining accurate cleaning logs.
  • Prioritize IV medication production appropriately and dispose of IV and chemotherapy/hazardous waste, adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Assist in non-sterile medication preparation by selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, scanning, labeling, filling, and delivering medications per department guidelines.
  • Accurately and efficiently transport medications from the pharmacy to areas outside of the pharmacy, maintaining an accurate controlled substances (CII-CV) inventory and reviewing and maintaining controlled substance records.
Requirements
  • High School Degree or GED
  • Active National Pharm Tech Cert (CPhT) is required
  • Approved cert is through Pharm Tech Cert Board (PCTB) and ExCPT Cert by the National Healthcareer Association
  • Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician
