Position Overview

Role Summary:
As a Control Systems Technician within the Norfolk Service Center Membrane Department, your primary focus will be on the configuration, execution, and troubleshooting of control systems, along with the programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interface stations, SCADA, and other control systems tailored for water treatment solutions. In this capacity, you will report directly to the Production Manager and provide support for NSC Plant and Membrane department operations. Additionally, you will play a key role in mentoring and developing fellow technicians in programming and automation topics. Occasional assistance with field operations, both onsite and remotely, may be required, with anticipated travel being minimal.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize design documentation such as Control Logic Diagrams, Shutdown Keys, Loop Diagrams, Instrument Indices, Setpoint Lists, DCS, and PLC Design documents to commission and troubleshoot control systems.
  • Develop and/or revise P&IDs, electrical schematics, control documents, and transfer lists.
  • Conduct control system factory acceptance tests alongside Clients and client-designated representatives.
  • Collaborate across engineering and service teams.
  • Establish and troubleshoot Ethernet-based networks to facilitate remote monitoring and support.
  • Assist the service team in resolving issues with mobile equipment.
  • Support the development of others in troubleshooting and servicing equipment.
  • Aid the plant in addressing technical challenges and documenting them.
  • Assist the Production Manager in the upkeep of plant PLC and automated systems.
  • Troubleshoot and install new equipment as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager, Membrane Supervisor, and COE team on NSC plant projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

What You Bring:
  • A degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 5 years of experience in designing and commissioning instrumentation and control systems in power plants, chemical processing facilities, petroleum refineries, or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Alternatively, an associate degree in Electronics or Controls with 3 years of field experience in troubleshooting and commissioning DCS, PLC, or SCADA Control Systems.
  • Willingness to travel for domestic and international assignments; expected travel is up to 5%.
  • Practical experience and understanding of fieldbus networks (Controlnet, Devicenet, Foundation Fieldbus).
  • 2 years of experience with water treatment systems and equipment, including UF, RO, EDR, EDI, Ion Exchange, pumps, motors, FDA, filtration, and chemical feed systems is preferred.
