Educational Specialist in Special Needs

Special Education Teacher-
POSITION OVERVIEW: The role entails ensuring adherence to Special Education standards while developing a curriculum, classroom schedule, and instructional materials that cater to the unique needs of students, in alignment with state and institutional requirements, as well as their physical, emotional, and educational development levels.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring compliance with Special Education mandates by creating, executing, and overseeing each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP), which encompasses behavioral, life skills, and vocational objectives.
- Providing accurate and timely documentation for Special Education students as mandated by the organization and relevant authorities, while maintaining confidentiality of all records.
- Designing and implementing tailored academic programs through formal and informal assessments of academic performance, social-emotional growth, and vocational skills, adhering to governmental and organizational standards. Preparing individualized lesson plans and activities based on assessment outcomes.
- Exhibiting knowledge of effective teaching methodologies by utilizing a diverse array of materials and delivery methods, avoiding excessive reliance on any single medium.
- Demonstrating familiarity with the IEP and treatment planning process by analyzing referral and assessment data to gather each student's history, challenges, and disabilities; preparing for IEP and treatment planning meetings with current, specific data; and establishing suitable goals and objectives.
- Managing the classroom to foster a safe, secure, and productive learning environment by providing structure, clear expectations, and consistency. Implementing expectations and consequences as appropriate for each student, as outlined in the behavior management plan.
- Maintaining a firm, fair, and consistent approach to student instruction while encouraging involvement by reinforcing positive behaviors as specified in the behavior management plan.
- Proactively identifying potential behavioral issues by ensuring continuous supervision of assigned students and assessing their behavior patterns.
- Projecting a positive role model image for students and colleagues by collaborating as a team member, demonstrating compromise, and appropriately expressing opinions while attending required staff meetings.
- Ensuring adherence to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements by reporting any known or suspected violations to the supervisor or through designated channels in company policy. Upholding confidentiality of all student records in accordance with program guidelines.
- Fostering positive community relations by coordinating efforts with external agencies, groups, and individuals to enhance the teaching program. Communicating effectively with families, relevant external personnel, and staff members, ensuring that all information shared (both written and verbal) is clear, concise, accurate, and courteous.
- Providing timely, accurate, and professional documentation by recording daily grades, progress notes, reports, IEP goals, incident reports, and behavior data in line with standard practices of the facility.
- Ensuring a classroom environment conducive to learning by maintaining cleanliness and organization, including desks, shelves, and storage areas. Ensuring that wall displays and posters are appropriate and foster a positive learning atmosphere.
- Monitoring classroom supply inventory by tracking daily usage and preparing orders for replacements as necessary.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Special Education Certification
- Valid Teaching License
- Minimum of 1 year experience in Special Education
