Position Overview
The Director of Laboratory Operations is tasked with overseeing the daily functions of the American Society for Clinical Pathology's Pathology Laboratory. This role includes providing on-site Clinical and Client Services, as well as ensuring Quality Assurance across all affiliated laboratories.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain training manuals, policies, and procedures for efficient laboratory operations.
- Manage the Quality Assurance Program, ensuring that Quality Control procedures are regularly updated and adhered to.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to maintain a fully staffed laboratory with qualified personnel.
- Support external training initiatives, facilitating internships for students in Histology.
- Work closely with Client Services to establish and enhance services for new clients.

Operational Management
- Ensure that laboratory operations meet quality and timeliness standards.
- Assist in staff management, including hiring, coaching, and performance monitoring.
- Direct strategic operations across various sections, including Digital Pathology, by defining responsibilities and setting performance goals.
- Implement communication strategies to ensure seamless operations across different laboratory sections.

Compliance and Financial Oversight
- Make informed decisions regarding workload, revenue integrity, and patient care quality.
- Review protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Oversee communications with regulatory bodies to maintain compliance with CAP and CLIA requirements.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, disseminating necessary information.
- Manage financial resources, including budget administration and financial reporting.

Record Keeping and Reporting
- Ensure that all laboratory operations maintain appropriate clinical, financial, and employment records in compliance with relevant standards and laws.
- Provide regular updates and support to management as needed.
- Coordinate with pathologists across various locations to ensure operational efficiency.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Basic Science or related field.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in laboratory management.
- Certification as a Histology Technician or Histotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Certification is preferred.
- Previous experience in anatomical pathology is highly desirable.
- A Master’s degree in a related field is an advantage.
