Northern Wasco County PUD is in search of a dedicated Senior Accountant to enhance our dynamic utility operations. This role is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, offering a flexible hybrid/remote schedule and a 4/10 work week.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Accountant will execute a variety of accounting functions in compliance with FERC standards under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor. Responsibilities include assisting in the development and upkeep of financial statements, journal entries, accounts receivable billings, accounts payable, and various subsidiary records and ledgers. Furthermore, the Senior Accountant will aid in work orders, inventory management, fixed asset tracking, financial audit preparations, annual budgeting, external reporting, rate calculations, cash management, and payroll processing review.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements, billing reports, adjustments, and related documentation.
  • Assist in the maintenance of various subsidiary records, ledgers, and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for various state and financial agencies.
  • Maintain comprehensive financial records to support financial statements and prepare and post routine and complex journal entries to the general ledger system.
  • Support the annual budgeting process by compiling department budget projections and narratives, analyzing utility retail and wholesale revenue and expenditure data.
  • Coordinate the annual external financial audit, gathering and reviewing relevant data, preparing reports, and communicating with external auditors as necessary.
  • Monitor and reconcile banking and investment accounts to provide insights and recommendations for the organization's cash flow.
  • Support average cost perpetual inventory records and work order accounting transactions to ensure timely and accurate work order closing.
  • Assist in the recognition and retirement of fixed assets and the monthly closing of the subsidiary ledger.
  • Ensure proper distribution of labor and material account codes for payroll, work order, and inventory processing.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting functions while enhancing document and data integrity.
  • Create reports for ad hoc requests.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide accurate financial data and guidance.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of accounts payable invoices and maintenance of vendor documentation.
  • Support software and system implementations and updates.
  • Be prepared to work outside of normal business hours during emergency situations or special projects.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and computerized accounting systems.
  • Proficient in financial statement analysis and forecasting of revenues, expenses, and cash balances.
  • Intermediate understanding of budgeting principles and variance analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and 10-key calculator usage.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong mathematical skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Six years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.
  • Four years of progressively responsible accounting experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is typically performed in comfortable working conditions, with minimal disagreeable elements during normal job performance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The role requires standard office administrative tasks, including sitting, standing, walking, and keyboarding. May involve lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs.
