Northern Wasco County PUD is looking for a dedicated Senior Accountant to enhance our dynamic utility team. This role is a full-time position with a flexible hybrid/remote schedule and a 4/10 work week.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant will oversee various accounting functions in compliance with FERC standards, reporting directly to the Accounting Supervisor. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and upkeep of financial statements, journal entries, accounts receivable and payable, as well as maintaining subsidiary records and ledgers. The Senior Accountant will also support work orders, inventory management, fixed asset tracking, and assist with financial audits, annual budgeting, external reporting, rate calculations, cash management, and payroll processing oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements, billing reports, and related documentation.
- Assist in maintaining various subsidiary records, ledgers, and monthly reconciliations.
- Analyze and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for state and financial agencies.
- Maintain comprehensive financial records to support financial statements and post routine and complex journal entries to the general ledger.
- Assist in compiling department budget projections and narratives for the annual budgeting process, analyzing utility revenue and expenditure data.
- Coordinate the annual external financial audit, gathering and reviewing relevant data, preparing reports, and communicating with auditors as necessary.
- Monitor and reconcile banking and investment accounts to provide insights and recommendations for cash flow management.
- Support inventory records and work order accounting transactions for timely and accurate work order closures.
- Assist in the recognition and retirement of fixed assets and monthly subsidiary ledger closings.
- Ensure accurate labor and material account code distribution for payroll, work order, and inventory processing.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency and data integrity.
- Create reports for ad hoc requests and collaborate with stakeholders to provide accurate financial data.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in processing accounts payable invoices and maintaining vendor documentation.
- Support software and system implementations and updates.
- Be available for emergency restoration activities and special projects outside of normal business hours.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and computerized accounting systems.
- Proficient in financial statement analysis and forecasting.
- Intermediate understanding of budgeting principles and variance analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and 10-key calculator usage.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
- Strong decision-making abilities with a focus on organization and project prioritization.
- Solid mathematical skills and attention to detail.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Six years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.
- Four years of progressively responsible accounting experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The role is typically performed in comfortable working conditions, with minimal disagreeable elements during normal job performance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires standard office activities such as sitting, standing, and keyboarding, with the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
