Biological Specimen Coordinator

LabCorp is looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to become a part of their Biological Specimen Coordination team. The Biological Specimen Coordinator will play a crucial role in managing specimen accessioning, sample categorization, and data management in a dynamic, high-output environment following established standard operating procedures.

Work Schedule: 3rd Shift, Monday - Friday, 9:00 pm - 5:30 am. Overtime may be necessary based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and introduce biological specimens to the laboratory to guarantee precise processing.
  • Open specimens for processing and analysis.
  • Confirm that patient demographic details align with the submitted test requisition forms.
  • Input patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes.
  • Achieve essential production metrics and quality standards to ensure timely and accurate results.
  • Unpack and direct specimens to their designated staging areas. Package and dispatch specimens to appropriate testing facilities when necessary.
  • Properly prepare and store surplus specimen samples. Address and document any issues with specimens.
  • Manage and dispose of medical and chemical waste, adhering to relevant environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Operate automated equipment under supervision when required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical or clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Comfortable handling biological specimens.
  • Ability to accurately identify specimens.
  • Capable of working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong data entry and organizational abilities.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must pass a standardized color blind test.
