POSITION OVERVIEW


This role involves conducting both waived and non-waived laboratory tests as stipulated by CLIA '88, ensuring accuracy and timeliness under supervision. The technician will assist in maintaining compliance with all relevant laboratory accreditation standards and regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). The personnel will report directly to the department supervisor and may be tasked with the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens for laboratory analysis.

All tasks must be performed in accordance with established protocols, procedures, regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as applicable professional benchmarks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Conduct testing accurately and promptly, adhering to established policies and performance metrics relevant to the testing performed. Responsible for the initiation, calibration, and precision of procedures and equipment. Utilize independent judgment to identify appropriate resources while executing assigned tasks, demonstrating an understanding of the theoretical and clinical significance of the tests conducted. Exhibit problem-solving and decision-making capabilities for routine operational and technical challenges. Display proficiency in the computer systems utilized within the department and perform basic troubleshooting as necessary. Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards pertinent to the area of responsibility.

Recognize and validate abnormal patient and/or quality control results. Guarantee the accuracy of test outcomes. Engage in identifying and documenting any deviations from established procedures, demonstrating effective resolution and follow-up for issues encountered during testing. Uphold and consistently achieve departmental standards for productivity and quality.

Manage the appropriate use of supplies and materials, assisting with inventory oversight. Ensure efficient utilization of reagents and materials. Identify and suggest opportunities for enhancing financial performance to reduce costs, boost productivity, and improve service quality.

Be proactive and motivated to contribute to projects identified by the supervisor. Seek opportunities to initiate projects that address departmental needs. Participate actively in the training of laboratory staff. Perform effectively in the absence of the supervisor, providing guidance on matters related to pre-analytical, waived, and non-waived testing. Complete all mandatory training modules.

Communicate professionally, courteously, and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Participate in resolving communication challenges. Utilize appropriate resources for enhanced problem-solving capabilities. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Foster positive communication that promotes teamwork. Attend and engage in staff meetings.

May be involved in processing and preparing patient samples as required, which includes: 1) specimen collection 2) general laboratory specimen processing and 3) referral laboratory processing. Ensure correct patient and specimen identification and maintain specimen integrity throughout the process.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

- Associate degree in laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science (transcripts will be reviewed for eligibility).
- Equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR, or
- Meet other criteria outlined in 42CFR including military medical laboratory training courses.


Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation) or another nationally recognized credentialing agency for eligibility review and translated diploma.
Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy in applicable departments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MLT certification (ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB).
- Basic understanding of specimen requirements and familiarity with medical terminology.
- Prior experience with phlebotomy and specimen processing.
- Additional relevant education and/or experience.
