Job Description

Overview: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing various tasks that involve physical labor under the guidance of the site supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to various job locations as required.
  • Engage in daily labor activities related to the construction and upkeep of residential structures and facilities.
  • Prepare and maintain construction sites to mitigate potential hazards, ensuring job sites are clear of debris and rubble.
  • Assist in the repair, restoration, and installation of structures including floors, doors, walls, windows, staircases, decks, and roofs.
  • Operate and conduct preventive maintenance on hand and power tools.
  • Support carpenters by retrieving necessary tools and equipment.
  • Install hardware such as locks, hinges, knobs, and closures.
  • Interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
  • Excavate ditches or trenches, compact and level earth to specified grades using appropriate tools.
  • Measure, mark, and document openings and distances to layout areas for construction work.
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, tools, and other temporary structures.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, ramps, and other temporary structures.
  • Assist in labor tasks for other trades as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential function effectively. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Education and Experience:

Minimum: No prior experience required; entry-level position.

Preferred: Two or more years of experience in construction.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with basic carpentry tools, equipment, methods, and materials.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physically demanding tasks.
  • Capability to read and record written information accurately.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of safety and incident reporting procedures.
  • Dependability in meeting project schedules.
  • Ability to wear protective gear as required.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and in varying weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to work in uncontrolled environments and respond quickly to changing work demands. The individual must be able to lift up to 100 lbs, climb on and off equipment, and operate tools for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

Most work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
