Position Title: Youth Program Manager

Department: Parks and Recreation

Compensation: $19.58 per hour

Role Summary:

The Youth Program Manager is tasked with overseeing the execution of extracurricular programs for children, including afterschool initiatives and day camps. This role encompasses the creation, administration, and implementation of a detailed program strategy aimed at enhancing youth engagement. The manager will supervise part-time staff and operate under the guidance of the Out-of-School Time Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership (10%):

  • Foster a culture of excellence by embodying the mission and values of the City of Decatur.
  • Support departmental objectives by actively contributing to its goals.
  • Exhibit sound judgment in addressing program-related challenges and making decisions under pressure.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor with both internal and external stakeholders.

Management (30%):

  • Effectively manage multiple projects and priorities, ensuring timely completion.
  • Provide regular updates on project status to the Program Supervisor.
  • Implement budgetary measures to meet financial targets.
  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Address and resolve patron concerns professionally.
  • Demonstrate accountability in delivering quality services aligned with departmental goals.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements to meet participant needs.
  • Facilitate staff training and performance management to uphold high standards in youth programming.
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews with direct reports.
  • Encourage a safe and supportive environment for both staff and participants.
  • Plan and coordinate engaging field trips that meet program standards.
  • Oversee daily operations, including attendance and activity scheduling.
  • Ensure safety protocols are prioritized and followed during all activities.
  • Conduct monthly emergency drills and manage crises effectively.
  • Collaborate with community partners to achieve program objectives.
  • Utilize resources efficiently to maintain budgetary compliance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to families through effective communication.
  • Maintain program equipment and supplies for optimal operation.
  • Support accreditation processes and uphold standards consistently.
  • Produce quality documentation including evaluations and reports.

Team Collaboration (40%):

  • Work cooperatively with colleagues on various projects and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners and other departments.
  • Act as a liaison for all program-related activities.
  • Recognize and reward part-time staff contributions.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork.
  • Participate in inter-departmental collaborations.
  • Assist in recruitment efforts as needed.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries and concerns from stakeholders.

Administrative Duties (10%):

  • Maintain accurate records for personnel and program participants.
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Represent the department at community events and meetings.
  • Manage program surveys and recruitment activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience in childcare or summer camp settings.
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Prevent Child Abuse (or ability to obtain within six months).

Physical Requirements:

Candidates should be able to:

  • Engage in physical activities including lifting, walking, and standing for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Utilize office equipment and software effectively.
  • Be available for flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends.
