Position Title: Research Project Coordinator

Employment Status: Part-Time (20 hours/week)

Position Summary

The Foundation for Atlanta Veterans Education and Research, Inc. is in search of a dedicated Research Project Coordinator to support Dr. Erica Duncan's research team within the VA Mental Health Department.

The selected candidate will assist the Principal Investigator in managing daily operations for multiple research studies, which includes but is not limited to:

  1. Executing clinical research coordination tasks such as participant recruitment, informed consent, screening, and reviewing medical records.
  2. Collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator to strategize all research coordination activities and workflows.
  3. Breaking down project tasks and delegating responsibilities to the appropriate team members.
  4. Serving as the primary contact for other research sites.
  5. Managing the project budget and ensuring all expenditures align with the financial plan.
  6. Monitoring project progress to ensure adherence to timelines and objectives.
  7. Assisting with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and regulatory documentation as required.
  8. Ensuring compliance with research protocols, reviewing case report forms, and auditing for accuracy against source documents.
  9. Documenting all research project processes and standard operating procedures for reference and use.
  10. Recommending and implementing enhancements to policies and processes.
  11. Providing mentorship to junior and new clinical research coordinators and overseeing clinical research activities in the absence of the Principal Investigator.
  12. Identifying and coordinating pharmacy needs related to the study, including tracking orders for study medications and liaising with the VA research pharmacy.

In the absence of available staff, the incumbent may need to act as the primary contact for other research activities.

Additionally, the role may involve leading efforts in identifying and completing research grants, developing study materials, and submitting grant proposals.

Job Functions

Function 1 (40%): Engaging with research participants and performing related tasks, including collecting study specimens per protocol, which may involve phlebotomy, processing, and preparing for shipment. Follow-up with enrolled participants to assist with care and communication with the Principal Investigator and other healthcare providers. Identifying participants needing additional support and coordinating with study coordinators and nurses for follow-up. Organizing weekly team meetings to discuss research study matters.

Function 2 (40%): Ensuring quality assurance of study data, interacting with collaborators for data inquiries, documenting site activities, conducting self-audits of site records, and participating in local compliance audits. Identifying and coordinating study-related equipment and facility needs, participating in weekly conference calls and investigator meetings, and working closely with the Principal Investigator and other staff on regulatory and compliance issues.

Function 3 (20%): Mentoring and training other study coordinators, maintaining documentation of training, and serving as a liaison with collaborators and study staff for protocol compliance and study updates.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a scientific, health-related, or business administration field, or licensed as a Nurse in the State of Georgia.

Experience: A minimum of 4 years in research administration or research study experience. Experience in conducting research-related activities is advantageous for success in this role, including regulatory affairs, study procedures, phlebotomy certification, processing/shipping biological specimens, and data entry or database management.

A friendly and people-oriented approach to ensure a positive experience for the veteran population. Capability to meet and exceed time-sensitive goals in both independent and team settings.

Special Knowledge, Licenses, Etc.

Certification as a Research Associate (CRA) or Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) is preferred.
