Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced House Supervisor RN to join our team at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. As a key member of our nursing department, you will be responsible for overseeing the allocation and assignment of nursing staff during shifts to ensure safe patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Staffing and Scheduling: Collaborate with the Staffing Coordinator and Nurse Managers to plan staffing for the next shift, taking into account nursing care standards and requirements.
  • Shift Management: Adjust daily schedules as needed due to illness, emergencies, or census influx, and document all changes.
  • Patient Care: Assist with patient care in all areas as required, and assume responsibility for the ER when ER staff are absent.
  • Quality Improvement: Evaluate the quality of nursing care in all areas, making patient rounds as able, and assume responsibility for staff performance during the shift.
  • Disciplinary Actions: Document details of potential disciplinary/behavior problems and send information to the appropriate director/manager and/or Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Supply Management: Oversee crash cart checks and documentation, stock crash carts daily as needed, and assume responsibility for supply management.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to all emergencies and resuscitations, and assume team leader responsibility during resuscitations unless the ER, ICU, or OB charge nurse is already performing in that role.
  • Liaison and Communication: Serve as a liaison between the Administrator-On-Call and external agencies, consulting with the Nurse Manager/Director or other Administrative representative concerning matters that require immediate attention.
  • Incident Reporting: Respond to patient/family complaints, physician complaints, and employee conflicts, and provide resolution. Initiate incident reports when indicated, with follow-up with the nurse manager/director, and Chief Nursing Officer as appropriate.
  • Admissions and Transfers: Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges during the shift, and act as the hospital incoming transfer center.
  • Infection Prevention: Adhere to and ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols.
  • Patient Rights: Demonstrate an understanding of patient rights, including those pertaining to confidentiality, informed consent, and privacy.
  • Professional Development: Participate in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement, and desired client-centered outcomes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Actively participate in survey readiness activities and assure compliance with all regulatory standards.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing required, BSN preferred.
  • Experience: Three years of clinical nursing experience and one year of Charge RN experience preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, or immediately eligible. Basic Life Support certification required within 60 days of employment, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications within 90 days of employment.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to perform effectively in highly stressful situations and work well in a fast-paced environment.
