Dining Services Assistant

Job Summary

The Dining Services Assistant is a vital member of our team at United Church Homes, Inc. This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation, service, and clean-up of meals served to residents and staff in our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Cook in food preparation and service
  • Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator
  • Prepare nourishments according to community procedures
  • Execute the sanitation process by washing tables and chairs in the dining room, sweeping and mopping the dining room floor, taking trash to the dumpster, washing dishes and silverware, and putting clean dishes and silverware away
  • Assist with meal service duties, including setting dining room tables, working on the meal tray serving line, serving meal trays to residents, checking meal trays for accuracy, clearing tables of dishes and trash, and pushing food carts to nursing wings
  • Communicate with residents during meal times to enhance the homelike dining experience
  • Assist with clean-up after each meal and preparation for the next meal
  • Follow all appropriate safety and security guidelines, procedures, and protocol for residents in the unit
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, their families, and other significant relationships
  • Provide care, treatment, and services with appropriate dementia care protocols
  • Participate in relevant educational and training activities as appropriate
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or directed

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
  • Six months to one year related experience preferred
  • Ability to learn basic computer applications
  • Must be able to operate mixers, stoves, microwaves, blending equipment, coffee makers, ovens, and sharp cooking utensils
  • Must have the ability to understand directions, read, write, understand, and speak the English language
  • Must be able to multi-task and work with a high degree of flexibility
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work with Dietary Staff, residents, families, and other community staff
  • Must be able to adhere to all terms and conditions set forth in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook
