About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineering Team Lead to join our team at Acord (Association For Cooperative Operations Research And Development). As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading a team of software engineers in the development of cutting-edge Real Time Communication Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a vision for the team's technical direction, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategy.
  • Lead and manage a diverse team of software engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and coaching to ensure their growth and success.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Developer communities, to drive innovation and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Design, build, and support production systems, leveraging expertise in C++/Java and Python.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the domain and client needs, ensuring that solutions meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
  • Champion agile approaches to drive efficiency and improvements in quality, ensuring that the team is working in a highly collaborative and productive environment.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, with a proven track record of success.
  • Experience in people leadership roles, with a focus on hiring, growing, and developing diverse teams.
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development, with expertise in building and operating extensible, scalable, and resilient systems.
  • Experience in building and designing back-end infrastructure for Real Time Communication, with a focus on WebRTC or similar video conferencing frameworks.
  • A self-starter with excellent spoken and written communication skills, able to work effectively on a team and drive results-oriented initiatives.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field of study, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success at hiring and growing teams, with a focus on diversity and inclusion.
  • Prior experience launching or leading greenfield initiatives, with a focus on innovation and disruption.
  • A track record of building applications and scaling complex distributed systems, with a focus on reliability and quality.
  • Knowledge of media formats (MP4, WebM), codecs (VP8, VP9, AV1, Opus) and video conferencing protocols/standards.
  • Experience with open source contributions, with a focus on collaboration and community engagement.
