Position Overview:

The Adult Representation Services (ARS) division is looking to recruit several Associate Attorneys and Attorneys to provide legal representation for individuals involved in civil commitment processes.


Key Responsibilities:

In this capacity, you will:

  • Advocate for clients throughout the civil commitment process, including advocating for discharge or modifications to commitments.
  • Provide legal representation during post-trial and recommitment hearings.
  • Represent clients in matters concerning the administration of specific medications.
  • Advocate for the sealing of civil commitment records.

This recruitment is aimed at filling multiple vacancies.

Compensation:

Starting Salary Range:

  • Associate Attorney: $81,112.68 Annually
  • Attorney: $100,153.89 Annually

Work Environment:

This role is primarily based in a downtown location with potential flexibility for remote work depending on job responsibilities. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Position Type:

This is a full-time position that qualifies for benefits. The role is classified as either Attorney or Associate Attorney.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • For Associate Attorney: Admission to the Bar of Minnesota at the time of application.
  • For Attorney: Admission to the Bar of Minnesota at the time of application and a minimum of two years of legal practice experience.

Preferred:

  • Strong litigation skills.
  • Experience in representing clients in court-appointed cases.
  • Background in public law.

Knowledge and Skills:

Candidates should possess knowledge of:

  • Local laws, ordinances, and established legal precedents.
  • Legal research methodologies and investigative practices.
  • Judicial procedures and evidentiary rules.
  • Effective court presentation techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Additionally, candidates must be capable of:

  • Independently managing court cases.
  • Utilizing technology for case management.
