Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trial Attorney to join our team at Farmers Group Inc. in Minneapolis. As a key member of our litigation team, you will be responsible for the competent, ethical, and diligent representation of clients in all cases assigned by your supervisor.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tort law and experience handling cases of moderate to great complexity and/or exposure. You will be responsible for preparing pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs, attending hearings, conferences, interviews, trials or arbitrations, and performing any other tasks necessary for the proper representation of clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle cases with unique legal or procedural issues involving moderate to severe injuries and/or damages.
  • Assist other attorneys in such cases as assigned.
  • Functionally supervise attorneys who have been requested to assist the Trial Attorney in the handling of particular cases.
  • Consult with and render opinions to members of the Claims Departments regarding insurance policy questions and questions concerning the legal aspects of the handling of personal injury claims.
  • Keep supervisor informed of the work being done for clients and of any and all problems encountered.
  • Maintain and update computerized litigation support systems for assigned caseloads.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A law degree and membership in good standing of the State Bar in the state in which position is located.
  • At least three years of experience as an Attorney, including civil jury trial experience or equivalent dispositive ADR experience or comparable outside experience.
  • Ability to handle cases of moderate to great exposure and/or complexity with minimum supervision.
  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to function and handle high case loads in adversarial or confrontational situations.
