POSITION SUMMARY:

The Farm Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing agricultural activities under the guidance of the General Manager. This role requires a blend of agricultural expertise and strong management skills to enhance productivity and sustainability within our farming operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crop Strategy and Execution: Formulate and implement strategies for crop production, resource allocation, and sustainability efforts. This encompasses crop scheduling, selection of varieties, rotation planning, irrigation techniques, soil health management, and pest control measures.
  • Operational Oversight: Supervise all facets of farming operations from planting through to harvest. Responsibilities include scheduling, machinery logistics, harvesting techniques, and the maintenance and procurement of necessary supplies.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, train, and lead farm personnel, ensuring a competent workforce that meets operational demands. Foster a culture focused on safety, efficiency, and ongoing improvement.
  • Application of Agricultural Science: Utilize scientific principles to boost crop health and yield while maintaining resource sustainability. Monitor plant growth and soil conditions, implementing necessary adjustments.
  • Administrative Management: Oversee the farm's financial planning, operational documentation, and administrative functions. Prepare comprehensive reports and forecasts for management review.
  • Innovation and Research: Stay informed about advancements in agricultural technology and practices. Introduce innovative solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manage crop planning and field upkeep, including soil enhancement, pest and disease management, harvesting quality assurance, weed control, and irrigation system maintenance.

Ensure employee health and safety by developing and maintaining protocols to protect farm workers, including compliance with relevant safety standards.

Implement and uphold food safety measures.

Oversee employee management by directing daily farm activities, providing guidance and training, and participating in recruitment processes as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role includes supervision of Farm Hands, Row Crop Supervisors, and Date Crop Supervisors, ensuring coaching, performance evaluations, and a safe working environment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor's degree in an Agricultural-related field is preferred, though relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of 4 years of experience in farm operations, including supervisory roles and experience in sustainable organic agriculture or a related area. Educational qualifications may substitute for work experience.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS:

Possession of a valid Driver's License and the ability to pass a background check.

COMPETENCIES AND ANNUAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  2. Communicate effectively with all staff to ensure project specifications are met.
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices by recommending and implementing conservation strategies.
  4. Ensure the farm maintains its Organic certification.
  5. Focus on the health and vitality of crops and soil.
  6. Develop planting schedules.
  7. Create a safe and inclusive environment for all employees.
