Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Alumni Belonging Programs as a Director. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan to expand engagement and foster a greater sense of belonging for our diverse and historically underrepresented alumni communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to engage and support our affinity group communities, including the development of tailored programming and events.
  • Lead a team of staff members in the development and implementation of alumni engagement initiatives, including volunteer management and stewardship.
  • Collaborate with University stakeholders, including identity centers and other departments, to implement alumni-student affinity group programming and identify opportunities for new initiatives.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of volunteer training, stewardship, and recruitment strategies.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources to support the implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the strategic plan and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience required in a related field, such as alumni relations, volunteer management, community building, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategy development.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in higher education or a nonprofit setting, with knowledge of Brown University a plus.
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills, including organizational skills to meet goals and objectives through effective program and project planning.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects under deadline.
  • Demonstrated skill in various forms of written correspondence and the ability to communicate information to individuals and groups orally.
  • Working knowledge of the Windows environment, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and electronic mail and calendars.
  • Ability to administer simple surveys, conduct analysis, and report results.
  • Demonstrated success with event planning and direct experience with volunteer management.
  • Experience with data tracking and annual reporting processes.
  • Supervisory and management experience with the ability to coach, mentor, and tailor professional development plans for individual staff members.
  • Ability to travel and work occasional nights and weekends as needed.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and demonstrated flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.
  • Experience working in a team environment and commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • High level of integrity, tact, and discretion in dealing with confidential donor/prospect information.
