Position Overview

The Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer will oversee the operations of hourly staff and assume technical leadership within the fabrication environment. This role encompasses providing manufacturing expertise to address complex challenges in various fabrication areas, including Toolroom, Sheetmetal Shop, Wire Room, Waterjet Room, Glass Shops, and Model Shop. You will be responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive training program to ensure seamless shop operations and contribute to the formulation of manufacturing process strategies that optimize shop capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the activities of a team of hourly employees within the fabrication areas.
  • Identify, quote, source, and procure materials and tooling essential for manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain the highest safety standards across the operations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute daily production schedules.
  • Facilitate effective transitions of work scope between different areas.
  • Deliver exceptional internal and external customer service.
  • Establish and implement process controls to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in strategic planning for manpower, equipment, and resource allocation.
  • Guide and inspire the team towards improvements in safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Coordinate resources to meet operational goals in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Identify and execute projects aimed at enhancing process quality and reducing costs.
  • Collaborate with hourly leaders to implement plans that drive significant advancements in manufacturing techniques.
  • Engage with hourly staff to improve product quality and provide corrective feedback on quality issues.
  • Initiate and manage capital equipment projects that promote sustainability and efficiency in manufacturing.
  • Work closely with the shop to develop methods, schedules, and documentation for process improvements.
  • Implement training programs for operators.
  • Apply lean methodologies to design equipment and material handling processes that minimize waste.
  • Design, procure, and implement tooling and fixtures to facilitate rapid setup changes.
  • Analyze and optimize staff utilization, workspace requirements, workflow, and equipment layout to maximize operational quality and reliability.
  • Support lean initiatives and environmental health and safety (EHS) programs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to equipment and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 4 years of experience in manufacturing, or a High School Diploma/GED with 5-7 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Mastercam and/or other CNC programming.
  • Background in machine shop, toolmaking, or machining.
  • Experience in machine repair.
  • Experience supervising hourly employees.
  • Familiarity with working in a unionized environment.
