Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Senior Assistant Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Program Advisor will be responsible for the evaluation and certification of all student loan documentation for the undergraduate student body. This role includes providing guidance and support to students and their families regarding financial aid options, university policies, and federal regulations. Additionally, the advisor will contribute to outreach initiatives and assist with front desk operations in the absence of the receptionist.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, certify, and oversee all student loan applications and associated reports, including conducting federal loan reconciliations and addressing loan disbursement discrepancies for all student demographics.
  • Manage the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid's email communications, responding to inquiries and offering general advice.
  • Assess and certify requests for student loan adjustments from both students and staff, advising on federal and private loan alternatives based on changes in enrollment status and eligibility.
  • Support the management of the Financial Aid Office and Financial Wellness websites, ensuring content is current and relevant.
  • Provide assistance at the front desk and main phone line as needed, counseling students individually and in group settings on financial aid policies, procedures, and financial literacy topics.
  • Aid in resolving issues related to federal aid applications, coordinating with students to gather necessary documentation for compliance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary skills.
  • Basic understanding of the federal financial aid process.
Essential Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, demonstrating accuracy in all tasks.
  • Proficiency in various software applications, including Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, and web browsers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with federal financial aid and student loan processes.
Preferred Skills:
  • Adherence to university policies and regulatory standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Integrity and ethical conduct in all professional interactions.
  • Ability to express independent opinions and take a stand on issues when necessary.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is between $22.50 and $24.50 per hour, with the final salary determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience.
