Position Overview

The Campus Life Office is dedicated to creating impactful experiences for students, guiding them in discovering their capabilities, participating in community activities, and contributing to a more equitable society. Through student organizations, university-wide events, and fraternity and sorority activities, we foster essential social connections, support comprehensive student growth, promote mental wellness, and enhance the overall campus atmosphere, ensuring a dynamic and inclusive environment for everyone.

The Director of Campus Life should demonstrate a strong commitment to the development of college students, reflected in the daily operations of the office and a flexible work schedule that includes evenings and weekends. This role involves providing direction and assistance to student leaders in their governance and advocacy initiatives. The Director will aid fraternity and sorority leaders in cultivating a robust, values-oriented community that emphasizes inclusivity, student growth, accountability, leadership, and social involvement. Furthermore, the Director will support student organization leaders in executing engaging campus-wide programs and traditions that enrich the student experience and promote a lively campus culture. A solid understanding and experience in formulating policies related to student organizations are essential to ensure compliance with university standards and enhance the efficacy of these groups. The Director must be enthusiastic, innovative, proactive, a problem-solver, and dedicated to fostering connections, engagement, and the development of student leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • (15%) Lead, oversee, and develop policies and strategic plans for a comprehensive co-curricular experience for Campus Life units: Fraternity & Sorority Life and Student Organizations & Activities. Align, update, and implement the department's strategic vision while promoting the work within Campus Life, sharing narratives and successes to build support and recognition for the department's contributions to student development and engagement.
  • (15%) Manage the recruitment, onboarding, training, development, supervision, and support for a team of nine professional staff (including two direct reports), graduate assistants, and student employees/interns, ensuring a supportive and growth-oriented high-performing team.
  • (10%) Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with student government, student leaders, organization advisors, student affairs, academic affairs, facilities management, risk management, legal counsel, university police, and other campus and community partners.
  • (10%) Advocate for the co-curricular experience by establishing and maintaining policies, support services, and programs for over 400 registered student clubs and organizations, 30+ values-based chapters, and four fraternity and sorority governing councils that align with the university's mission and focus on maximizing student engagement opportunities.
  • (10%) Collaborate with the Director of Student Organizations and Activities to support the Associated Student Government (ASG), providing strategic guidance and assistance to student leaders in their governance and advocacy efforts. Foster a collaborative relationship with ASG to enhance student representation and drive meaningful initiatives.
  • (10%) Provide leadership and support for major campus programming and signature events, serving as a liaison with other campus departments on large-scale programs.
  • (10%) In partnership with the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, oversee collaborative efforts with Greek letter organizations, housing corporations, chapter governing bodies, university departments, and resources to ensure the safe operation of individual chapters.
  • (10%) Ensure compliance with fiscal operations and performance contracts in accordance with departmental and university policies. Review, negotiate, and approve performance and service-related contracts.
  • (10%) Build and maintain relationships across campus and engage with various stakeholder groups to enhance and coordinate student life. Represent Campus Life on leadership teams and serve on or lead several university-wide committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eight to ten years of experience in student activities, leadership development, fraternity/sorority life, or related areas with senior management responsibilities.
  • Master's degree required, preferably in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or related fields.
  • Significant experience as an innovative leader managing personnel, budgeting, program assessment, and creating environments that enhance students' academic and personal success through co-curricular involvement.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing policies related to student organizations, ensuring alignment with university standards.
  • Experience in program development, including learning outcomes and contract negotiations.
  • Experience advising student organizations, including training, travel, and financial management.
  • Experience supervising senior professional staff.
  • Familiarity with Greek letter organizations and understanding of supporting fraternity and sorority systems, including risk management practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD, EdD, or other terminal degree in higher education, business, student affairs administration, or related field.
  • Certifications in leadership and/or harm reduction initiatives.
  • Understanding of educational environments at highly selective institutions.
  • Ability to function effectively in a decentralized, research-intensive university environment.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Experience leading and implementing a strategic vision for a department.
  • Skills in counseling, crisis management, and conflict resolution.
