Outsource Consultants is actively seeking a Zoning and Code Compliance Specialist to enhance our team.

We provide a supportive office atmosphere with benefits for full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision, and generous paid time off, featuring 11 holidays, a birthday day off, and summer Fridays. This position is full-time and requires onsite presence.

After one year of full-time employment, we offer the flexibility of hybrid in-office and remote work.

As a Zoning and Code Compliance Specialist, your role will involve conducting zoning assessments and building code compliance evaluations, while effectively managing the resolution of variances or interpretation requests from municipal agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct zoning and code assessments, preparing detailed and professional communications for both internal teams and external clients.
  • Evaluate new projects, addressing and resolving any objections.
  • Formulate arguments for zoning and code determinations.
  • Review architectural plans and assist in the preparation of necessary processing forms and submissions.
  • Engage with municipal agency commissioners.
  • Coordinate meetings with municipal agencies through in-person and written correspondence.
  • Attend agency meetings both in person and virtually.
  • Manage client communications regarding project updates, including follow-ups on appointments and submission statuses.
  • Support Project Managers and staff with filing processes.
  • Stay informed on updates in zoning and code bulletins, as well as industry trends.
  • Ensure effective management of project budgets and timelines, with daily billing records maintained.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in a Construction, Architectural, or Engineering firm, or relevant field experience as an expeditor.
  • A professional degree in Architecture, Construction Administration, City Planning, or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid licensure or registration in good standing is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Department of Buildings' systems and procedures, along with an understanding of other relevant city agencies.
  • Ability to research case law to support zoning and code evaluations.
  • Proficiency in all Department of Buildings filings and compliance with NYC Zoning Resolution and Building Codes.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility requirements and relevant standards.
  • Familiarity with New York State and New Jersey Building Codes.
  • Comfortable interacting with design professionals and high-level municipal personnel.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Able to research and provide consultation on a variety of project types.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A collaborative team player with a willingness to mentor and train colleagues.
