Position Summary
The Healthcare Coding Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the accuracy of medical coding practices. This position involves conducting thorough coding audits and delivering educational support to healthcare providers, focusing on areas with significant potential for improvement.

Key Responsibilities
1. **Audit and Review**: Perform comprehensive audits of medical records to verify completeness and accuracy, ensuring alignment with clinical documentation and coding standards.
2. **Trend Analysis**: Identify patterns and discrepancies in provider documentation and coding methodologies, facilitating targeted improvements.
3. **Curriculum Development**: Create educational materials aimed at enhancing provider coding practices and compliance with established guidelines.
4. **Provider Education**: Conduct training sessions for healthcare providers and their staff on coding principles and best practices.
5. **Collaboration**: Work alongside various departments to develop strategies and resources that promote accurate coding as a standard practice across the organization.
6. **Data Management**: Participate in the collection and analysis of summary data, assisting in the generation of reports to support decision-making processes.

Uphold the confidentiality and security of sensitive patient information and documentation at all times.

Qualifications
- Associate degree required.
- 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare environment, preferably within a physician group practice or outpatient setting.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in medical coding with a proven track record of coding accuracy.
- Comprehensive knowledge of coding systems relevant to inpatient and outpatient settings, including APR-DRG/MSDRG and APC/APG payment systems.
- Proficient understanding of CPT/HCPCS/Revenue Code procedure coding and ICD-9/ICD-10 coding principles.

Licensure and Certification
Certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) is required.
