About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Specialist V to join our team at the Texas Military Department. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in promoting mental health awareness and wellness among our service members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and refer service members with behavioral health needs to OJS counselors for clinical treatment and support.
  • Coordinate with unit leadership and J9 to identify risk factors and provide support for mental health awareness and wellness promotion plans.
  • Conduct mental health-related psychoeducational skills training for service members, including suicide prevention, resilience, substance use, and other behavioral health and wellness topics.
  • Facilitate peer support groups for service members.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and patterns of harmful behaviors, and share findings with the Integrated Primary Prevention/Joint Resiliency Directorate.
  • Serve as a behavioral health advisor to the prevention workforce on topics such as domestic violence, self-harm, sexual violence, sexual harassment, and workplace violence.
  • Coordinate and support the development of Risk Mitigation Plans in collaboration with the Risk Reduction Program.
  • Follow up on the effectiveness of evidence-informed treatment and make recommendations for service delivery.
  • Coordinate with Family Support Services programs to offer holistic support and resources to clients.
  • Participate in the planning process for implementing programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Attend relevant training and continuing education to maintain licensure requirements.
  • Coordinate outreach, education, and prevention efforts with units and leadership across the Texas Military Department.
  • Provide support and execute plans for mental health assistance to service members during disaster response missions.
  • May be required to perform duty in support of local, State, or Federal emergencies, disasters, and other missions.
  • Assist the Office of the Joint Surgeon in supporting critical incidents involving violent acts or major injuries and death, providing postvention care.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited Master's or PhD program with major coursework in counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Three years' experience as an independently licensed behavioral health provider (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PhD, PsyD) by the State of Texas.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word, or Excel).
  • Preferred experience: Military experience or working with military service members, bilingual in Spanish.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must possess one of the following licenses: LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PhD, or PsyD.
