About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist V to join our team at the Texas Military Department. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in promoting mental health awareness and wellness among our service members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health counseling services to service members, including assessment, counseling, education, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement mental health-related programs and services to promote resilience and prevent behavioral health issues.
  • Collaborate with unit leadership and other stakeholders to identify risk factors and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Conduct training and education sessions on mental health topics, including suicide prevention, substance use, and other behavioral health issues.
  • Facilitate peer support groups for service members and provide individual counseling services as needed.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and patterns of behavioral health issues and develop strategies to address them.
  • Serve as a behavioral health advisor to the prevention workforce, providing guidance on prevention of domestic violence, self-harm, sexual violence, sexual harassment, and workplace violence.
  • Coordinate with the Risk Reduction Program to develop and implement risk mitigation plans.
  • Follow up with service members to determine the effectiveness of treatment and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate with the Family Support Services program to provide holistic support and resources to service members and their families.
  • Participate in the planning process to implement programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Attend relevant training and continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in mental health.
Requirements
  • Master's or PhD degree in counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience as an independently licensed behavioral health provider.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • One of the following licenses: LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PhD, or PsyD.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Military experience or working with military service members.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
