Job Summary

The Payroll Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of payroll operations across the country. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to partner with Airgas managers and associates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily payroll operations, including multistate payroll processing, for employees across the country.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of weekly and biweekly payroll, including compliance with state, federal, and local requirements.
  • Process manual checks, special pays, gross-ups, and corrections/adjustments, with some manual calculations required.
  • Maintain payroll records and filing administration according to internal department practices.
  • Facilitate strong customer service relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Respond to service tickets and answer routine telephone inquiries concerning payroll issues.
  • Assist accounting staff in research and resolution of payroll-related transactions.
  • Provide support to peers/leadership as needed and timely feedback to manager, supervisor, and customers.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a payroll-related role.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certification, a plus.
  • Preferred background in Workday payroll.
  • Strong attention to detail, mathematical skills, and ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate and establish working relationships with co-workers, employees, and officials in other departments.
  • Utilize utmost discretion in handling confidential information.
