Job Summary

The Michigan State University Water Alliance is seeking a skilled Communications Manager to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy to raise the visibility of the Water Alliance and its research, education, and outreach initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy to engage target audiences and promote the Water Alliance's mission and initiatives.
  • Write and edit content for various communication channels, including social media, websites, and print materials.
  • Manage the Water Alliance's social media presence and develop a content calendar to ensure consistent and engaging content.
  • Collaborate with the Water Alliance team to develop and implement multimedia components for integrated communication efforts.
  • Provide strategic advice on communications projects and programs, and track metrics to assess reach and engagement.
  • Support the team in goal setting, execution, tracking, and reporting.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Telecommunications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in public and media relations, composing, editing, and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services.
  • Experience managing content for social media channels.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize and summarize complex information and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Initiative, good judgment, and the ability to identify priorities, own projects, and manage multiple assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with science writing, working in academia/higher education, and a willingness to learn.
  • Interest in topics related to the mission of the MSU Water Alliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to build community and grow engagement.
  • Familiarity with editing and managing a content management system (e.g., Drupal, WordPress) and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn).
