POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Cannabis Buyer will play a crucial role in formulating product assortment strategies and predicting demand for various retail locations. This position involves cultivating and overseeing essential vendor partnerships, negotiating product sourcing, ensuring prompt delivery of goods, managing inventory levels, and performing cost evaluations. This role necessitates regular travel to multiple retail locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Purchasing Director in crafting a product assortment framework for retail outlets, focusing on the balance of proprietary and third-party products to meet customer demand.
  • Plan, select, and acquire both internal and external merchandise for designated retail sites.
  • Establish and nurture effective relationships with key suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and conditions; collaborate with relevant internal teams to finalize agreements.
  • Oversee purchase orders and maintain tracking systems to ensure complete and timely deliveries, providing necessary documentation for vendor payments.
  • Work alongside cross-functional teams on product launches, pricing strategies, and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with Retail Leadership, Merchandise Planning, and Finance to analyze sales and inventory data, ensuring optimal stock levels in critical categories.
  • Manage the monthly Open-to-Buy process for third-party assortments and report findings to the leadership team.
  • Partner with the Purchasing Director and executive members to develop competitive pricing strategies that achieve targeted profit margins.
  • Engage with fellow Buyers and Merchandise Planning to maintain comprehensive sales reporting and product performance metrics.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and potential new vendors, fostering relationships with them.
  • Execute daily responsibilities aligned with the principles of effective purchasing: Right Quality, Right Quantity, Right Price, Right Placement, Right Timing.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:

No supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with ERP systems and Inventory Management; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and relationships, navigate ambiguity, and uphold confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of the cannabis sector, customer preferences, and industry trends.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to transform raw data into actionable insights.
  • Financial acumen, with experience in budget management.
  • Excellent organizational capabilities, with a focus on operational best practices.
  • Sound judgment in a dynamic environment, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional business judgment, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to retail locations and occasionally to other states.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain necessary state licenses as required.
