Position Overview
We are in search of a dedicated Clinical Research Nurse who will directly report to the Nurse Manager of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU).

Role Responsibilities
The Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for providing proficient nursing support for outpatient clinical procedures in accordance with established study protocols, clinic policies, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). This role also includes conducting DXA scans and assisting in the management of the outpatient clinic when the Nurse Manager is unavailable.

The CRU Outpatient Clinic handles nearly 3000 outpatient visits annually across approximately 150 different research protocols. The Clinical Research Nurse will engage in approved research protocols utilizing the outpatient CRU and must be well-versed in each study protocol.

Key Duties
1. Implement Good Clinical Practices in the care of research participants.
2. Provide evidence-based care directed by study protocols, nursing processes, and institutional policies.
3. Perform clinical tasks such as IV insertions, medication administration, patient interviews, blood sample collection, and vital signs monitoring as per the Nurse Practice Act and specific protocols.
4. Conduct quality assurance inspections of clinic equipment.
5. Complete necessary training for DXA protocols and conduct DXA scans.
6. Participate in unit and study team meetings prior to protocol activation.
7. Collaborate with faculty investigators, research nurses, study coordinators, and other team members to ensure high-quality and ethical clinical research.
8. Assist the Nurse Manager in mentoring and supervising clinic staff to uphold quality and safety standards.
9. Adhere to all relevant policies regarding patient confidentiality and data integrity.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with diverse research teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; must be an engaging self-starter capable of working alongside physicians and staff.
- Proficient time management and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Familiarity with software applications, databases, and word processing tools.
- Proficient in phlebotomy and IV insertion techniques.
- Knowledge of federal regulations concerning clinical trials and good clinical research practices.

Physical and Technical Requirements
- Ability to maintain prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
- Capable of lifting at least 35 pounds and performing tasks requiring finger dexterity.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact with research participants and healthcare personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
- Registered Nurse, licensed in the relevant state.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Current CPR certification from an accredited organization.
- Maintenance of licensure and certification throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of experience in clinical trials or medical research, preferably in an academic or pharmaceutical setting.
