Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Research Nurse to support the operational goals of the National Institute on Aging. This role is pivotal in delivering essential services and ensuring compliance with research protocols.

The working hours for this position are from 10PM to 6:30AM, Sunday through Thursday, with occasional coverage for holidays and weekends. This is a full-time opportunity located in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Review standard nursing practices and identify areas for enhancement.
- Integrate research protocol requirements into patient care.
- Analyze patient and family feedback, providing summaries for further evaluation.

- Manage testing schedules to ensure timely completion of clinical trial responsibilities.


- Collaborate with researchers to assess protocol needs.
- Conduct assessments and gather medical histories and physical examinations.
- Oversee data collection, maintenance, and analysis, ensuring accurate patient tracking.
- Schedule appointments and manage medical records.
- Evaluate participants' health conditions upon admission and monitor throughout their visit.
- Conduct follow-up assessments via phone, written correspondence, or email.
- Plan, implement, evaluate, and document care in accordance with protocol requirements and clinical standards.
- Enter clinical and research data into medical records and relevant systems.
- Insert and maintain intravenous (IV) lines and manage central venous access lines.
- Perform phlebotomy for clinical and research blood sample collection.
- Execute specialized testing and document care provided as per protocol.
- Respond to emergency situations and manage participant health crises, including direct admissions.
- Conduct Apheresis procedures using approved machines for research studies.
- Ensure availability of necessary medications and supplies.
- Perform quality control and maintain equipment functionality.
- Adhere to policies and regulations for biohazard and chemical waste disposal.
- Administer and document medications as per physician's directives.

- Communicate abnormal results and address concerns with research staff, ensuring patients are informed of processes and follow-up activities.


- Prepare patients for surgical and diagnostic procedures, clearly explaining the steps and expected outcomes.

- Provide medication instructions and detail necessary steps for self-administration, including monitoring for adverse reactions.


- Participate in patient rounds, protocol meetings, and care conferences, maintaining and writing research protocols.

- Carry out professional nursing duties for a specific patient population.


- Coordinate the collection and analysis of research data, ensuring completeness of records.
- Collaborate with NIA researchers and staff on study protocols.
- Review clinical laboratory values with medical staff and discuss findings with participants, recommending follow-up as necessary.
- Research industry best practices and propose recommendations for evaluation.
- Mentor new staff as required.
- Review, edit, and draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as necessary.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Valid Nursing License in the state of Maryland.
- Minimum of TWO (2) years of experience in Scientific Research, Clinical Research, or related fields.

Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with the National Institute of Health (NIH)
