Art Support Specialist - Resources for Human Development

The mission of Resources for Human Development (RHD) is to empower individuals with developmental disabilities by providing them with the resources and support needed to express themselves through art.

We are seeking passionate individuals for part-time and full-time positions at our arts-focused community program as an Art Support Specialist (ASS). RHD is dedicated to delivering compassionate, effective, and innovative services that help people of all abilities improve their lives and those of their families and communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The Art Support Specialist collaborates with artists who have diverse disabilities, particularly those whose challenging behaviors or health conditions may not align with conventional day services.
  • The Art Support Specialist (ASS) is accountable for:

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
  • Participating in meetings and training sessions relevant to the services offered in the program (including but not limited to team meetings, Individual Service Plan (ISP) meetings, and administrative discussions).
  • Ensuring that program documentation (data sheets, shift notes, etc.) is completed accurately and promptly.
  • Preparing ISP materials for submission to supervisors (monthly progress notes, assessments assigned by supervisors).
  • Monitoring and documenting funds available in the program (client funds, petty cash).
  • Ordering medications for the program and maintaining an adequate supply at all times.
  • Communicating medical information and necessary follow-ups.
  • Utilizing a mobile device (company or personal with stipend) to respond to communications (staff, supervisors, medical professionals, families, etc.).
  • Ensuring staff receive regular training in safety and human rights.
  • Responding to emails in a timely manner.

DIRECT SUPPORT:
  • Providing direct assistance to individuals in the program (including personal care and behavioral support).
  • Facilitating and assisting in classes and activities tailored to meet the needs and objectives of participants.
  • Implementing clinical programs as outlined in each individual's service plans and collecting data as required.
  • Building and maintaining therapeutic relationships with individuals in the program.
  • Helping participants stay connected with the community through field trips and community programming.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with colleagues, case managers, and management.
  • Advocating for the dignity and respect of all individuals, ensuring their human rights are upheld.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Participating in regularly scheduled team meetings.
  • Attending all assigned training sessions (both in-person and online).

PROGRAM MAINTENANCE:
  • Ensuring that program areas are clean and safe, reporting any safety concerns to the appropriate supervisors.
  • Ensuring that necessary program supplies are available (art supplies, food, cleaning materials, etc.).

DOCUMENTATION:
  • Accurately recording all data related to ISP goals.
  • Documenting all necessary medical and medication information.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The Art Support Specialist (ASS) plays a crucial role in helping individuals lead fulfilling lives as active members of their communities, promoting independence.

ASSs support individuals by:
  • Assisting with daily living activities.
  • Helping develop and implement goals outlined in the individuals' ISP.
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety protocols within the program and community.
  • Following all medical protocols and treatments as prescribed.
  • Contributing as a member of the program's team alongside clinical and management staff.

Qualifications:
  • Must possess current First Aid Certification.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • CPR certification must be obtained within one month of hire.
  • Experience with art or arts programs is preferred.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
