Position Overview:

As a Project Engineer at Graycor, you will participate in our Engineering Mentoring Program, which is tailored to provide you with essential hands-on experience vital for a thriving career in the construction industry. This program offers continuous, specialized one-on-one training, coaching, and mentoring through a variety of challenging project assignments, along with a comprehensive rotation across different departments. You will play an active role in your professional development by conducting self-assessments against established core competencies.

Typically, engineers will spend approximately 24 months in the Engineer Mentoring Program before progressing to a new role within Graycor.

Key Areas of Experience:

Project Management and Controls:

  • Support the Project Manager and Superintendent in effectively managing and controlling the project, ensuring that safety and quality protocols are implemented on-site.
  • Develop and maintain the critical path project schedule, including ongoing updates. Assist in preparing short-term look-ahead schedules and applying Lean Construction methodologies.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and expedite approvals from the Owner, Architect, and Engineers. Cultivate a thorough understanding of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, and agreements.
  • Assist in procuring equipment and materials, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Monitor and assess subcontractor and vendor performance, engaging with them on technical and contractual issues.

Estimating and Preconstruction Services:

  • Contribute to the preparation of estimates and proposals for project work. Assist the Project Manager and/or Estimator in bid preparation, subcontractor/vendor solicitation, evaluation, and selection.

Qualifications for Success:

  • A Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience through internships or post-graduate roles in construction.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and temporarily reside at project sites for extended durations, with travel home provided bi-weekly. Travel subsistence pay and incentive bonuses may be applicable.
  • A strong desire for professional growth and a commitment to acquiring new knowledge and skills. Our most successful engineers are driven to excel and have a passion for diverse construction projects.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Effective multitasking with a sense of urgency while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling professional interaction with managers, colleagues, subcontractors, and construction personnel.
  • Proficient problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite is required. Basic knowledge of scheduling, estimating, and takeoff software is advantageous, as we utilize Primavera P6, WinEst, and On-Screen Takeoff.
