Construction Project Engineer

You will play an active role in your career development by assessing your progress against established core competencies.

Typically, engineers will spend around 24 months in the Engineering Mentoring Program before moving on to a new position within Graycor.

AS A PROJECT ENGINEER, YOU WILL GAIN EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

Project Management and Controls:

  • Support the Project Manager and Superintendent in effectively managing and controlling the project while ensuring that safety and quality standards are upheld on-site.
  • Develop and maintain the critical path project schedule, including ongoing updates. Assist in creating short-term look-ahead schedules and applying Lean Construction methodologies.
  • Manage project documentation and expedite approvals from the Owner, Architect, and Engineers. Develop a thorough understanding of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, and purchase orders.
  • Assist in procuring equipment and materials, tracking their delivery efficiently.
  • Monitor and assess subcontractor and vendor performance, engaging with them on technical and contractual issues.

Estimating and Preconstruction Services:

  • Assist in preparing estimates and bids to secure project work. Collaborate with the Project Manager and/or Estimator in bid preparation and subcontractor/vendor selection and evaluation.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE GRAYCOR ENGINEERING MENTORING PROGRAM, YOU WILL NEED:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience through internships or post-undergraduate roles in construction.
  • The willingness to travel extensively and temporarily reside at project sites for extended periods, with travel home provided every other weekend. Travel subsistence pay and bonuses may be applicable.
  • A strong desire to grow professionally and acquire new skills. Our most successful engineers are driven to excel and are passionate about various construction projects.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Multi-tasking with urgency while maintaining a keen attention to detail is essential.
  • Effective communication skills, enabling professional interaction with managers, colleagues, subcontractors, and construction personnel.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Basic knowledge of scheduling, estimating, and takeoff software is advantageous, with tools like Primavera P6, WinEst, and On-Screen Takeoff being utilized.
