PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
This role is situated within the Shop Services Department and entails executing precision machining tasks on both manual and CNC machinery to produce new or replacement components that support power generation operations.
The position also involves assisting in the refurbishment of various power plant equipment, including pumps, fans, and turbine components.
The Shop team is dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous improvement through training and process enhancements while upholding high standards of quality and safety.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Perform manual machining with a high degree of precision.
- Set up and execute maintenance machining operations utilizing a variety of materials and equipment, including:
- Bridgeport milling machines
- Engine lathes (3 and 4 jaw chucks)
- Surface grinders
- Vertical boring mills
- Vertical/Horizontal band saws
- Conduct CNC machining with a high degree of accuracy.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot machining operations with various materials using equipment such as:
- CNC Vertical Milling Centers (HAAS / Fanuc controls)
- CNC Lathes (Fanuc controls)
- CAD/CAM Programming (GibbsCAM)
- Interpret and comprehend prints and assembly drawings, applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Utilize shop mathematics to set up machinery and perform quality inspections.
- Exhibit meticulous attention to detail and quality.
- Conduct maintenance and repair tasks on plant equipment, including:
- Pumps
- Gearboxes
- Fans
- Bearings
- Valves
- Disassemble and inspect components for repair or replacement, followed by reassembly.
- Adhere to established maintenance protocols, safety standards, and operational guidelines.
- Safely execute rigging and lifting operations, as well as operate shop cranes and forklifts.
This position may be filled at Associate, Mid-level, or Senior level, with specific qualifications outlined for each level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level I:
Associate's Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics, or a High School Diploma with a minimum of 12 months of relevant trade or technical experience.
Level II:
Associate's Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics with a minimum of 18 months of relevant trade or technical training.
Level III:
Associate's Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics with a minimum of 3 years of relevant trade or technical training, or 5 years of experience in a Maintenance Technician II role or equivalent.
All levels require a valid driver's license, the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, and the capacity to work in a power plant environment, which may include climbing and walking long distances.
Exposures may include heat, dust, smoke, dirt, high noise levels, and confined spaces, including environments with radiation exposure.
Ability to work at heights and perform tasks in radiologically controlled areas is essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with CAD software (AutoDesk / Inventor) and CAM programming (GibbsCAM) is advantageous, along with a mechanical background.
