Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic Motor Equipment Specialist to join our team at Baltimore City Public Schools. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic, installation, maintenance, and repair work on our school buses and other vehicles or mechanical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnostic and Repair Work: Diagnose problems and perform repairs on gasoline and diesel automobiles, trucks, and school buses.
  • Inspections and Maintenance: Perform Class A and Class B inspections on school buses as required by COMAR, and perform preventive maintenance tasks on school buses, automotive equipment, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Hydraulic System Maintenance: Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, including wheelchair lifts on buses.
  • Tool and Equipment Management: Provide hand tools and storage cabinets as needed to efficiently perform assigned tasks.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent, and three years of maintenance and repair experience of automotive and other mechanical equipment.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Maryland Class A or B Commercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license, with air brakes, passenger, and school bus endorsements.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the operation and repair of various gasoline and diesel vehicles and specialized equipment, including engines, transmissions, wheelchair lifts, and other complex components. Skilled in diagnosing and repairing electronically controlled engines, transmissions, and fuel systems, electrical systems, and other major components on vehicles and specialized equipment.
